Expected Results
Increased percentage of reported cases that are investigated
Increase awareness rate exponentially
Research Findings
I conducted qualitative research with a total of 10 participants. They shared their experiences with me. Below are my findings
66.7% of the participants emphasized physical assault and harassment has the most prevalent form of police brutality
90% of participants emphasized that lack of funding, inadequate training and education and unaccountability of police officers has the leading causes of brutality
All the participants emphasized that taking strict measures, holding police officers accountable, re-educating police officers, and providing adequate funding for them has the best probable solution
Also with the help of the participants, I came up with a tree-structure diagram showing the breakdown of the problem
What Didn’t Work Out
Initially, the idea was to use this as a body tag to raise awareness about police brutality and allow people to scan the barcode to report an incident or learn more about the issue. However, after talking to users, I realized that this may not be the best option because some individuals may feel uncomfortable scanning a barcode on their body. Therefore, I will be working on creating stickers that people can place on any item as an alternative solution.
